Calla's Sixty-Seventh Post

CHECK OUT John Allison's March 19th comic. (As in the one from today.) scarygoround.com. I kid you NOT, this is him at his pinnacle. Oh Shelley Winters! What would I do without you in my life!? Tabby says i AM Shelley Winters. Because I act like her and sort of look like her because of my green eyes, and even though my hair is boring brown (everyone knows red is the best hair color in the world, followed by black or dark dark brown, then boring brown and last is blond because blond hair is ugly.) it actually has a redish tint in the summer. When I was in England, it was really red. Here: Here is the picture of me looking most like Shelley Winters. Alright. So it turns out this isn't the best picture of me because I look greasy and what not. BUT when we got these pictures (cause Tabby's parents had taken them) we were both like "OMGOODNESS I look like Shelley Winters." It has to do with the vacant stare in my eyes. I have an idea. I will put a cute picture of me at the end of the post so that you know I am not ugly. And then you can imagine the vacant stare with the more reddish hair on the cute picture and perhaps you will think it is more like Shelley since she is oh-so-super cute.

SO, you should look at that comic strip of today. It is pretty much to die for FUNNY. No, for real, it made me laugh three times!!! AHHHH! I love it.

On an unrelated note, I have some pretty horrible news to announce. I am more than half-way done with Spring Break. . . and far less than half way down with my assignments I have to do over Spring Break. Pretty much, I think that this means I am no longer allowed to do what we call, SLEEP. Nope. Pretty sure it will be off limits from here on out until like Next Wed. Can we do it? No, of course not; that's like a week. But, I'll probably have to limit it.

So, HAIR. YES HAIR. AHHH Greatness and a half for positive! I tried to see Hair this summer in Shakespeare in the Park. And it got rained out. Yes, one of the only three performances, which got rained out, was the one where I waited in life for hours and got all super excited and then had to be so upset that I'm pretty sure I cried. And with good reason because this show was so unbelievably intense that it actually moved from FREE Central Park Performances to $100 + per seat Broadway. It is currently in previews. I had to pay $60 for a ticket. (No i didn't. Tabby's parents paid for it because they don't know what to do with their money besides spoil myself and Tabby and they felt bad I hadn't gotten to see it this past summer.) And man oh man oh man oh man! If I HAD paid the $60 myself, it would've been MORE THAN well worth it!!!!! This was quite possibly the second best show I've ever seen (we all know #1 in my heart is Cry-Baby!!). It made me cry. Not just tear up, CRY. It was that well down. Seriously, when Claude died, I had to hold back, keep myself from losing it, because the acting, singing, and atmosphere were so right on I felt as close to him as Berger or Sheila. I kid you not, it was like losing my best friend. MAN CAN THEY SING. Sometimes you go to shows and you go, well, I could do that. Why am I supposed to be impressed? (maybe most people don't ever say "I could do that," but I had like 5 years of high school, was President of my high school choir, did musicals growing up, etc. etc.) But this musical made me say "OH MAN! I wish I could afford voice lessons again, because I would probably give almost anything to be able to sing like that." And some shows or movies about hippies pretty much make you say "wow, what a bunch of well-intentioned yet misguided youth who didn't really accomplish much of anything, huh?" Not this performance of Hair. I felt like they could enact social change, and I felt like that's what they wanted more than anything else. When Claude said that all he wanted to do was be invisible and perform miracles - well, I, for one, believed him. And I felt like their protests wouldn't be in vain but would actually catch the government's attention. And I felt like their free love was well placed within their social movement, not like their social movement was a decent excuse to practice free love. And then the ending. Well, it was the best ending to a musical EVER. PEOPLE GOT TO GO ON STAGE AND SING AND DANCE. I did not get to, because I was in the Mezzanine. But we had like a sing-a-long after the curtain call. It was fairly brilliant because it made the whole hippie-spirit thing real and not just contrived for a two hour show. Oh it was so amazingly great. I have to go see it again. I need $$$ but I also really need to see it again. With the speed at which Cry-Baby closed, I can't trust this to stay around forever. Granted it is doing better than Cry-Baby, but with the economy in its current state, who can afford Broadway tickets? Godspell (for which I was so psyched!) didn't even materialize. It was announced, and then it just fell through because no one had $$$$. But I guess we only need one hippie musical with a fairly Christian Message at a time on Broadway, right? They'd probably just compete for an audience and both close even sooner.

Alright, so that was my obsessive musical freak rant. We should do a Galactica rant. The people who watch that show are moronic. And I TOLD YOU that Daniel was a plot device to clear up the missing #7 and to show Cavil's personality. Well, in the podcast for the last episode RDM confirmed that all these stupid people babbling about "Starbuck is Daniel's son" are just that, stupid people. Ron Moore was all "I didn't realize Daniel would develop such a following. I shouldn't have put it in there. It was to demonstrate the Cain and Able - like story b/w Cavil and Daniel and nothing more, etc. etc." Well no Ron Moore, you were smart to put it in because I woulda bitched up a storm if that series ended with a MISSING number 7. And all these other people don't have cognitive reasoning or critical thinking skills. Ellen SAYS "its not like D'Anna is permanently disabled, not like what happened to Daniel." Point blank, that should've been enough for fans to understand that Daniel was not COMING BACK. PERMENANTLY DEAD. Furthermore, with opera-house mysteries, and head characters, and the significance of Hera, and "dying" leader that is still not yet dead. . . WHY would they introduce some random character mystery at THE END of the series. . . unless it was to clean up these other secrets. But Galactica is too smart to be forced to utilize deus ex machina devices. Seriously, way too intelligent a show for that.

Alright, there was a mini-galactica rant. I don't think I'll rant too much before the finale ends since I've only seen one of three hours of it. BUT I do want to tell you that I'm especially interested in Baltar. I am wondering if he is similar to Starbuck. Everyone has always questioned his ability to survive the nuclear blast on Caprica seen in the mini-series and theme song with barely a scratch on him. He may yet be a lord of Kobol. Perhaps THE Jealous lord? I hope they make Starbuck's answer conclusive. And I'm also hoping the answer is that she is Aurora because that is what I've been saying from the beginning. But either way, I hope it's not left ambiguous, just because I don't want to deal with fans freaking out about it and continuing to speculate unreasonable theories. (Like SHE'S THE SON OF DANIEL. For Frak's sake, whoever started circulating that rumor shouldn't even be allowed to watch the series finale. It should be their punishment for not understanding how to properly make use of one's reasoning center.)

Alright, more rants? Maybe more rants. Maybe not because I should actually get working on some homework. BOOOO

Alright, here is a better picture of myself. (Though many of you may disagree with that statement. I LIKE my silly face.) It was taken in honor of THOSE BOOTS. I love those boots. I bought them LAST Feb. as in February 2008 not 2009 and thought they were the greatest thing since sliced bread. They are getting sort of beat up now. :( That makes me sad. UM, they are the brand Novacas (as in no vacas as in no cows as in NOT abusive to animals). Which is verifiably the best brand of shoes ever. I'm not lying and it is not up for debates. I love them. If I was super rich, besides getting voice lessons, I would buy like 17 pairs of Novacas shoes/boots/sandals.

Here's your inanimate animal friend for the day. He is a foxy-woxy cutesy-wootsy animal cracker! I LOVE his bushy tail!!! (I guess I do eat animals!!!! OH NO!)

Love, Calla and Her Kitties.

P.S. Fuffers went to the vet today, and he has lost 2 oz since last year! I will take whatever small victories I can from fatso over here! I love him. He is so heavy (17 lbs 15 oz) that Tabby and I must take turns carrying his carrier and we have to switch like every other second. I LOVE THAT FUFF. The vet said he needs his teeth clean. I'm scared he's gonna die under anesthesia :( I will probably never recover if that is the case.

Calla's Sixty-Sixth Post

Remember when it was like 1996 and I was ten and everyone and their mother was on AOL chatting it up in chatrooms and IMing and forwarding crap e-mails, half of which asked you to fill out a survey about yourself? Well, pretty much with the expansion of facebook into a full fledged stalking device, the survey things are all over the place again. They're even sillier now though because we have such handy-dandy high-tech-ness; so we are able to "put your ipod on shuffle and answer these questions with the name of the songs that play." Well, I only have an ipod shuffle (from the first generation like 4 years ago), so one step is done FOR me. Anyway, it's pretty ridiculous and humerous that we all act like we are 10-14 yrs of age again. This is not to pretend like I am not guilty of it myself. In fact, I rather enjoy filling out the surveys. Everyone loves to be egotistical now and again. (some more than others.) I enjoy wasting my time talking about myself so much (that I created this blog! hahaha) that when I discovered the take a survey application thingy-ma-bob, I answered a whole lot of questions. These are the answers to them.

They went in backwards order. Well, that was just a quick post. It's over now.

P.S. I just noticed that the person who wrote this is not from the U.S. because of the word "favourite"

Love, Calla and her kitties.

P.S. that first P.S. doesn't really count as a "post" script because I had not signed my name yet.

This is a puppy friend from Rye Playland. I told my friend Angel I wanted a bunny, and he couldn't find any, but said this dog kinda had bunny ears. Which is maybe a little bit tiny bit true.

Calla's Sixty-Second Post

Do you know what H2O is? No, I am not talking about water. I am talking about this Australian TV show I saw the other day (being yesterday) that is so funny, I laughed like a ghost band! OK, the show itself isn't funny. The concept is hilarious, and thus the theme song is funny like a ghost band. SO, these three teenagers turn into mermaids anytime they get wet! HAHAHAHAHAHA. I don't GET IT. I don't get it AT ALL!!!! They are already made of 70% water, and what? they don't sweat or cry or even BREATHE on themselves. NO SENSE. It is so funny. This is what wikipedia said, and we all know wikipedia has quite a way with words (trying to be all serious about non-serious subjects so that I just crack the frak up!) Ok, this is what it said, "The show's premise revolves around three teenage girls facing everyday teen problems with an added twist: they're mermaids with powers over water." HAHAHAHA. Can you believe that? Oh, too great for words! Really, too too great.

The bad news, the show is filmed at SEA WORLD! EWWWW. Now, here's the thing with sea world. . . I've been an animal lover my whole entire life. So, when I was little I loved to go to the zoo and to Sea World (the one that used to be in Cleveland, which was right near where I used to live.) This is because I did not realize how evil Sea World is. They train animals, we all know that entails beatings and starvation. The animals live in areas too small to engage in their natural, God-given behaviors (ie: use sonar in the case of dolphins). They live in CHLORINE, which is horrendous for their health. Well, also, I'm not sure the Australian Sea World is connected to the U.S. chain, but nonetheless, it is a marine park with abused animals. This is sad to me. It hurts my heart a bit (as all animal abuse does.) I'm kind of a bad person, in that, I feel pretty vindicated (I don't know if that's the right word. I don't think it makes sense. I guess I feel vindication on the animal's behalf. ? .) any time a trainer of a wild animal (ie: someone who abuses God's creation at a circus or a marine park) gets attacked, mauled, or even killed. I'm not kidding. I'm a bad person. I think, "well, you shouldn't've been fucking around with wild animals asshole!" Firstly, it was just a mean thing to do. Secondly, it was just a dumb thing to do. Even house cats can rip holes in your flesh if(when) they want to. Why do you think a lion, whom you are pissing off by shoving a metal rod done his throat, won't one day snap and do the same!? And, probably, you deserved it, because you shoved a metal rod done an innocent animal's throat.

K, so that was the animal rant of the day. Today, for the animals, I wrote Trader Joe's about offering more vegan options. Probably that won't actually do anything. But I also resent the e-mail to the humane certified people because the one I sent yesterday got sent back to me because I typed the e-mail address wrong. So, that mighta been good. Perhaps I will make these people think more about these issues. And if they already consider them strongly, I will be better informed when I am recommending the products which are certified humane to other people.

So, know what else I want to mention? Short Bus. Man, I am one harsh movie critic. What is with all these so-called sex positive messages that turn out to be NOT sex positive!? Just a question. So, Short Bus was a'ight. It was not nearly as good as Hedwig (and how could it be if it wasn't a musical, right?), but it didn't completely suck upon first viewing. Some of the characters were quirky in a non-annoying way, their lives interwove in a believable fashion, all of the actors were good at acting, the ending wasn't so corny, though it was predictable, that you wanted to puke or anything horrible like that. So, it wasn't bad. It was just another hum-drum movie that I probably wouldn't watch ever again, but it didn't bother me on any level. It was only upon further contemplation that the movie got to me.

So, John Cameron Mitchel (if that's at all how you spell any of his names) started off wanting to make a sex-positive movie with real sex. That was seriously the goal. Something about how all the real sex in movies coming out of Europe represents something bad, and sex is something good. His movie, however, wasn't about sex. It was about human connection. And sex was used as a metaphor. So, he is still not positing a positive message about sex, rather he is positing a positive message about human connection. Additionally, in this world, where sex is equivalent to connection, there is no place for the asexual individual. I think I have talked about asexuality before on this blog in regards to the Kinsey Institute adding a 7 to Kinsey's 0-6 scale. (This is dumb. There should be two scales one for homo-hetero and one for a-hyper, if you are a 0 on the a-hyper one, you don't need to fit on the homo-hetero scale. However, people who are like a 1 [mostly asexual] still deserve another number.) Anyway, I think my point is about marginalizing a whole group of people who are currently misunderstood. I am not myself asexual, but I cannot STAND how people don't acknowledge that asexuality exists! In the world of Short Bus, they cannot exist, for if they did, they would have no way of connecting to other people.

Next: what is with the story of the woman not being able to cum!? This has been done so many other times. And it has been done WELL. (see: coming soon. Haha. It's brilliant) So, there is nothing inherently wrong with the story. But John Cameron Mitchel, as a gay male, does not know how to pull this one off. Additionally, to make the entire movie hinge on this one fact, which I admit is an important one in the life of the character, to the point where the FINAL moment is of her cumming, and then only show it for a split second! Like show the gasp and the "about to scream" and then cut to New York City's lights coming back on (Yeah, apparently her orgasm was so great it fixed the blackout) is just cheap. It is still as though, though this is the most important part of the film, the climax if you will (pun attended, hahaha!), you still cannot show it in all it's glory even though we've seen multiple males ejaculate. ANNOYING. Also, to equate it with the power coming back on makes it something special, as opposed to something a woman has every right to experience everyday the same way a man does.

And maybe I am reading too much into the woman cumming thing. And I think perhaps I don't even understand completely what I didn't like about it, but there was something that didn't sit right. If you are a womanist, a feminist, a sex-positive individual, a woman's rights activist, whatever, and you have seen this movie, perhaps you can share your opinion with me.

The other thing I didn't like was how it was such a male dominated cast. This is to be expected of a white, liberal, gay, male I suppose. (If you need me to explain that statement, chances are you wouldn't understand what I mean even after the explanation.) But it still bothered me. I am one of those annoying people who is always keeping score. (i.e.: whose name was shown first in the credits when the male and female lead had the exact same amount of screen time and shared equally in the role of protagonist?) I can't help it. I feel like the majority of people in this country like to assume and pretend that sexism is over, that women have equal rights, and equal treatment. This is not the case. And it is DEFINITELY not the case that women have equal representation in government jobs or high-end corporate positions. Forgive me for wanting to see them represented equally in Indy-Flicks.

Also, what is with the whole idea that this movie is not supposed to turn you on because it is not porn!? Now, it didn't really turn me on, that's most likely because I am probably only a 1 or 2 on the whole asexual to hypersexual scale that I invented. But, I can't see how it is not supposed to turn other people on. There is mad sex right in your face. And why is John Cameron Mitchel all opposed to porn in the first place!? You can't objectify all of these people's bodies for "art" and then say it's a crime against humanity that people are objectifying their bodies for the sake of sex and sex alone. (I did a whole post on this once. Go find it if you care.) If this was designed to be sex-positive, he should be happy to be showing sex for the sake of sex. (That should be a new movement, right? Sex for Sex's sake like Art for Art's sake, only we must be on a closer guard against venereal disease in this new movement I am proposing.) Am I wrong? Should he be showing sex for art's sake instead? Is that sex positive, or just art positive?

So, other than that, it WAS your run-of-the-mill Indy-Flick. Some "deep" movie with grand symbolic gestures that actually seem kind up shallow and useless when one puts on his/her analytical reasoning hat. Except it has real sex; this is how it is different. So, if you can't stomach that for one reason or another, don't see it. Otherwise, probably still don't see it 'cause you could spend that hour and a half or whatever watching actually meaningful things like Battlestar Galactica, Mad Men, My So-Called Life, or Wonderfalls. (Yes, these are all TV shows, not movies. But it stands that they are all better than most movies.)

OK.

That's all for now. I still don't have new kitty pictures, so I think I'll put up this bat picture from Halloween. See, 'cause I told you all about this bat, but I don't think I ever pasted up an image. And if I already have, forgive me for the re-run.

Love, Calla and her kitties.

Calla's Thirty-Fifth Post

This is just to reiterate the point that Kara Thrace is Aurora, one of the 12 Lords of Kobol. After all, Athena says when they are first on Kobol that the cylons know more about the human gods than the humans themselves do. Leoben clearly knows a lot about Starbuck, no doubt. And when Starbuck first came back from the dead (which she most certainly did. You just wait and see.) Adama was playing with that figurine of Aurora again. Symbolism? I think so probably yes. And then at the beginning of the mid-season finale Lee is looking at a temple of Aurora from earth. (or what legend has it the temple looks like on earth. Probably we'll never know since earth is a nuclear wasteland.) What we will know is that Starbuck is Aurora. I just wanted to reiterate all of this before the final ten episodes start this Friday!! (AHHH! Who's EXCITED!?) Just so you would remember I am right.

As for Kendra Shaw, unless they paid a lot of people off, it doesn't look like she will be the final cylon. The actress isn't in any of the credits. Which looks like a bad sign considering she was the only intelligent choice. I will probably be mad at whatever happens.

I am so so excited that this post is like a re-run. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? I'm gone for months and I come back with RE-RUNS!? hehehehe. I am just so so so excited it is hard to contain my excitement and I must just write about all this exciting galactica business.

My cat is a bobble head. Did I tell you? I am afraid he is sick because, a few times now, starting a couple nights ago, he did this thing where his head looked like a bobble head- like it wasn't really attached to his neck and it just bobbled. It is strange. It only happens for a couple seconds and it does not seem to bother him. I hope he is not dying. He is kind of old. The other kitty must go to the vet tomorrow to get shots. She has not been to the vet in a year and 2 and a half months. That means she is 2 and a half months late on shots. But I am not worried because she only stays inside. What does make me worried a little is that she will be so sad!! She just went to the vet like 2 weeks ago or something and the vet said she had a cold so she couldn't get her shots. So now she has to go back already and she will be so so so so so so sad. Also, we will ask the vet about the bobble, and see if he needs to go in. He has not been in to the vet in 10 months.

Did you know there's a ban on HIV positive people entering the U.S.? It's probably for their own benefit; we might start testing drugs on them against their will if they come here.

Love,
Calla And Her Kitties.

GUEST CAT II This is the little Roxanne in her safe place. She lives with Christina. If my memory serves correct, she was named after Roxy Hart from the musical Chicago and because Christina's favorite part in the movie Moulin Rouge is the scene with the song El Tango De Roxanne.

Calla's Sixteenth Post

So, tell me why at a gay club I get hit on twice and Leo only gets a semi-stalker? Tabby said "because if you're straight at a gay club, you have so few options but if you're gay you have a lot of options." OK, but tell me why a straight guy is at a gay club? Perhaps bi? And tell me why a guy, bi or straight thinks a girl who went to a gay club went there to meet someone? Now, that's just brain-deadness. And that is really all I have to say about that.

Since today it is Halloween, and yesterday it was about to be Halloween, some people were dressed up yesterday. At the club I saw two people in "Wildcats" shirts with the number 14 on the back and High School Musical 3 above the number. One of them was wearing a hat like Ryan always wears, so clearly he was supposed to be Ryan. The other one was wearing one of those headbands people wear when they sweat a lot. So, I'm hoping he was Chad and these people realized that Ryan and Chad are honestly gay together. (Don't tell me you didn't realize 'I don't dance' was gay innuendo.) (Chad is still in the closet because he hasn't overcome the stereotype that jocks must be heterosexual, despite the heartfelt song 'we're all in this together.')

(these are my wildcats)

I didn't see HSM 3 because it's in the movie theaters and I'm not going to pay to go see a Disney Movie, especially when I don't have any children with me. (Then there is embarrassment on 2 levels. It looks like you have no morals and you are a loser. . . and I am a loser, but I do have morals.) So yeah, I am a little sad that it was not on TV, but I think I will see it one day. Probably after it is on video and I am in Arizona Callista will have it and I will watch it. Leo saw it though. Now he has the songs on his iPod because he is a loser too. And that is why we are friends. Christin saw it too, and that is why we are sisters. (HAHA no it's not!! We are sisters because we have the same parents!) And also, she didn't see it 'cause she's a loser, she saw it cause she has children. YAY FOR CHILDREN.

So, what else? I don't know what else. I tripped yesterday because sometimes I like to wear these bright green boots that are supposed to be costume boots and aren't really meant for walking around all over town. . . but I do it anyway. So, there's no traction so I slipped and screamed and it was really a little funny because Celia was terrified that she was going to get cut because Halloween is supposedly Bloods initiation or whatever. (How many people are in this city? How many people get cut every Halloween? Your chances are so slim and also practically the same as any other day, but whatever.) So, we were walking in a crowded area (1st Ave. by 14th St., ya know near the L so it's crowded cause people are getting on and off the train.) and I tripped and screamed and Celia almost had a heart attack thinking someone was stupid enough to come up and cut me while I'm walking in a crowded area with two of my friends, one of whom happens to be a tall male. So yeah, I cut my knee but managed not to get a run in my leggings. Tell me how that's possible!? (Really, how is that possible?) And then this morning I have bruises on both my knees. This is what happens when you are uncoordinated, you legs always look like they belong to an eight year old.

UM, it is halloween! I did not have work today because Eliza is paranoid also and decided to send all the middle schoolers home right after school so they are not walking home in the dark. (It gets dark here early now and it is almost time to 'fall back.' Does that mean it will get dark even earlier? Let's think so, at 5 o'clock it will turn into 4 o'clock and it will still be as dark as it was at 5 o'clock. Yep, that means it will get dark even earlier. That is a little bit dumb, but daylights saving is a little bit dumb all the time. Since only 2% of this nation works in farming [and that includes the evil industry factory farms SO SO SAD] and we got mad electricity, probably we don't need daylights saving. Arizona doesn't do that.)

The End.

Love,
